Periampullary cyst: a surgically remediable cause of pancreatitis.
We report two patients with periampullary cysts associated with recurrent attacks of acute pancreatitis. In both patients the diagnosis was made preoperatively by upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and ERCP, which was also useful in determining the relationship of the cysts to the biliary and pancreatic ductal systems. Simple marsupialisation of the cysts resulted in long term relief of symptoms....
متن کاملMediastinal parathyroid adenoma causing primary hyperparathyroidism.
An ectopically placed parathyroid adenoma in the anterior mediastinum is a rare cause of persistent or recurrent primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) and is recognized as an important cause of failed primary neck exploration. We encountered 3 such cases amongst 70 surgically treated patients with PHPT (4.3%) over a 20-year period. In 2 cases, the offending adenoma could be removed at first explor...

Functioning black adrenal adenoma (BAA) rarely causes preclinical Cushing's syndrome (CS). In the present case, a 46-year-old Japanese Peruvian woman presented with left flank pain and hypertension. Abdominal computed tomography showed that she had a 15-mm in diameter, round, left adrenal adenoma. She had no physical features of CS, such as moon face, buffalo hump, truncal obesity, or purple st...

This is an interesting case of an isolated ampullary adenoma causing biliary obstruction that required surgical excision. We describe a patient who presented with a six month history of recurrent attacks of typical biliary pain radiating from the right upper quadrant of the abdomen to the back, nausea and vomiting, which we attributed to a large pedunculated tubulovillous adenoma. Abdominal ult...
